So, I'm not a Michelin inspector, but I have working taste buds and have spent some time living abroad in Japan, occasionally enjoying fine, good, and great sushi. Sushi Kuwahata definitely falls into the "great" category--and it's in Cleveland, Ohio of all places. Fine and good sushi is all over the place in Cleveland, but if you are looking for an authentic omakase experience, this is it. Each nigiri contains premium ingredients and intense preparation from a chef who understands this art. Enjoy the multi-course dinner in a quiet dining area seating eight with an authentic Japanese atmosphere. Beyond the food, the chefs are fun to talk to and don't mind giving you a peek behind the curtain, so don't be shy. The price tag is steep, but if you want the real deal without booking a plane ticket, it's well worth the visit for a special occasion.

Everything about the experience at Sushi Kuwahata is so well thought-out and intentional. This was one of the best meals I've had in my life, and the high quality ingredients, slow pacing of the food, delicious sake pairings, atmosphere, and great conversation all contributed. I walked out feeling like I had just spent hours at the spa, super calm and satisfyingly full. We will definitely be returning to try out the menus of different seasons. I highly recommend dining here!

As an avid sushi eater since my first experience as a student in Boston in 1978, and having eaten sushi across the world, the overall experience at Sushi Kuwahata is not only the best sushi I have ever had, it was overall one of the most extraordinary and special dining experiences I’ve ever had. The artistry and exceptional taste of each omakase bite was amplified by the wonderful sake pairings. The best charwanmushi I’ve ever had, and 31 day dry aged toro?? Mind blowing! Like the best dry aged wagyu steak - and even better! Truly an amazingly talented team, Chef Kwan, Chef Ryan and Shirley. An incredible experience and one that in Cleveland, rivals the best omakase experiences around the world.

Summary: Visited during a trip home to see my parents. I live in San Francisco and have traveled to Japan multiple times... This was truly the most exceptional omakase I have had anywhere in the world. Every detail has been planned and executed to the highest degree of excellence. To have this kind of experience anywhere would be a treat but to have it in Cleveland is an incredible luxury. A must visit. Details: Space - Absolutely stunning, intimate space with incredibly beautiful, traditional Japanese finishes. The wood counter is so soft you could rub your face against it. Food - Beyond all expectations. Careful selection of the best ingredients, a fanatical fixation on flawless execution, and undeniable skill, all really add up to something special here. The use of unique techniques and seasonings, chosen thoughtfully for each fish elevated what I thought were familiar ingredients to entirely new levels. Drink - Incredible selection of top sakes, many of which I even found difficult to find on my last visit to Japan. Service - Incredible service, warm, accommodating, effusively kind and above all else... super fun and friendly! At this level, dinning can often be st

Wasn’t sure what we were expecting for the newly opened omakase experience here in Cleveland, but we were pleasantly surprised. Yes it is steep, but you are getting amazing quality food with a huge variety. You can taste the freshness of all of the ingredients which are most if not all sourced directly from Japan, including all of the utensils, dishware and even the hinoki wood counter you are dining on. My husband and I will definitely come back and are so excited to have a legitimate sushi restaurant in Cleveland. Overall it was a 4.8/5, definitely on par with sushi we’ve had in NYC and Japan, and we can’t wait to come back :)
